Course description

This course covers a range of first aid emergencies and how to deal with them, enabling learners to qualify to the level of Emergency First Aid at Work. Learners will be able to administer Emergency First Aid in the workplace meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The course is recognised by OfQual at level 3.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
  • Deal with an unconscious casualty
  • Carry out resuscitation (CPR)
  • Control bleeding and manage shock
  • Deal with minor injuries
  • Deal with burns
  • Understand responsibilities and reporting
  • Use and maintain first aid kits
  • Deal with a suspected spinal injury
  • Understand the protocol when it comes to head injuries and return to play after concussion

Who is the workshop for?

The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

The qualification is seen as a minimum standard for coaches in some sports such as tennis (via the Lawn Tennis Association and also England Netball).

Learner eligibility

Learners must be a minimum of least 14 years of age and be able to communicate effectively in English. This workshop involves undertaking practical activity involving kneeling and lying down.

Assessment and re-qualification requirements

Practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course and certification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.

The qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. You will be required to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.

Format / duration

The course is usually delivered over 1 day (6 hours which includes a lunch break).

Progression opportunities

The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher level, plus aid career progression in a relevant profession.
