Workshop description

Time to Listen is an interactive workshop developed by the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU). At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify what a club welfare officer does
  • Describe how a club welfare officer works with others to create a child centered environment
  • Explain how the club welfare officer role fits into the wider safeguarding environment
  • Apply learning to case studies including sharing good safeguarding practice

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop is appropriate Club Welfare Officers within sport. The workshop is designed to give Welfare Officers confidence and to support them in their role. There is plenty of opportunity to talk to others and share good practice.

What’s the value of this workshop?

The Time to Listen workshop will help you carry out your safeguarding role and responsibilities to young people. The workshop will provide the opportunity to discuss a range of topics in a friendly, open and informal environment, as well as providing an opportunity to learn from other Club Welfare Officers.

Learners will receive a copy of a Time to Listen Workbook resource.

Learner eligibility

Learners must be a minimum of least 18 years of age and be able to communicate effectively in English. It is highly recommended that attendees complete UK Coaching's Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop before attending this workshop. In addition, please ensure that your National Governing Body accepts the multi-sport version of the Time to Listen course before booking.

Assessment (if applicable)

Informal ongoing assessment will take place throughout the workshop. Certification is valid for 3 years.

Format / duration

This is an online workshop delivered virtually over a three hour period.

Progression opportunities

CPSU would recommend completing refresher webinars every 1-2 years to remain up to date.

Register Interest

This process is available to determine demand. Further workshops will be organised if demand exists so we would strongly recommend that you register your interest. 

The registration of interest process is free. Your payment details are not required. You will be asked to complete your 'booking' details but this will simply be to register your interest and not book onto a course.
