Summary
FIBA REFEREE INSTRUCTOR PROGRAMME (FRIP) is a worldwide programme developed jointly with FIBA and Sport Structures. Simon Kirkland of Sport Structures is the technical expert in developing and delivering the teaching and learning element of the programme. This was the first programme delivered in the Oceania region of FIBA.
Approach
Simon delivered the teaching and learning element to fifteen Instructors from Australia and New Zealand on the Gold Coast of Australia. The first two days concentrated on teaching and learning and was followed up with two days of basketball and refereeing knowledge.
Outcome
The feedback was concentrated on the future delivery of the participants. All of the instructors will be deployed across both countries and estimate that over 200 new referees will be trained in the first year.
